CREAF is seeking a research technician to join the READAPT project (REgional patterns of genomic and phenotypic trait variability associated with ADAPTation in Taxus baccata L.), with ref. PID2020-112738GB-I00, and financed by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.The contract will be full-time (37.5 hours per week), for two years, and is envisaged to start in October 2021. The gross salary offered is 20,964.12 € per year.
TASKS- Field work and sampling of plant material in natural populations of Taxus baccata distributed throughout the Iberian Peninsula and Western Europe.- Measurements and sampling of plant material in a common garden experiment of the species located at Valsaín (Segovia).- Assessment of the variation present in leaf anatomical, morphological, and physiological traits potentially linked to local adaptation.- Preparation of samples for elemental and stable isotope analyses.- DNA extractions.- Bioinformatics support for SNP selection and SNP capture design.
REQUIREMENTS- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Biology or related science (or equivalent training and experience).- Basic knowledge of population genetics and evolutionary principles.- Proven ability to work co-operatively in a research team environment.- Experience with plant quantitative genetics experiments and the measurement of trait variation.- Applicants must be well-organized, responsible, be able to work independently and be comfortable working for long hours in rugged terrain and challenging weather conditions.- Fluency level in English, oral and written.- Class B driving license (valid in Spain).
ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS- Experience with DNA isolation techniques.- Familiarity with operating system environments (Unix, Linux, …) and language programming (R, Phyton, …) relevant to genomic analysis.- Image processing capabilities.- GIS training.- Scientific writing skills.
