Remote sensing and geographic information systems have permitted analysis of the territory at large scales, and which are at the same time increasingly detailed. These analyses become fundamental for making decisions about the sustainable management of natural resources, designing networks of protected areas, and facing the threats of global change.

Thanks to research carried out by CREAF in this area, we have been able to provide to the public a collection of digital maps of land use of various periods of time, design new formats for storing and distributing thematic cartography, and develop computing tools such as the MiraMon GIS, all of which permit the query and analysis of a large quantity of information about our natural heritage.
