Master Students

If you are interested in ideas and supervision for a Masters Projects or summer work experience during your degree, please contact the researcher you think could be more interesting for your area of study.

PhD Fellowships

PhD Severo Ochoa Programme (closed)

This year, 5 PhD fellowships will be funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation through a predoctoral call (‘Ayudas para contratos predoctorales para la formación de doctores 2020) assigned to the Severo Ochoa Accreditation.

Candidates should be admitted to a doctoral programme for the academic year 2020/2021 at the time of the beginning of the scholarship (estimated in spring 2021). Besides, they must have a strong commitment to scientific research and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree.

Interested candidates can only apply to one of the following projects, and it is highly recommended that they contact the researcher in charge before submitting the application:

  1. Soil carbon dynamics and predominant protection mechanisms as influenced by soil microbial and faunal biodiversity (Josep Maria Alcañiz)
  2. Maintaining de regional scale ecosystem network (Jordi Catalan)
  3. Developing comprehensive regional ecology (Lluis Brotons)
  4. Maintaining de regional scale ecosystem network (Jordi Martínez Vilalta)
  5. Developing comprehensive regional ecology (Jordi Sardans)

PhD fellows at CREAF will receive a 4-year contract with a gross annual salary of 16,250€ for each of the first two annuities; 17,410 for the third annuity; and 21,760 for the fourth annuity, apart from an additional grant of 6,860€ for mobility and training for the 4-year period.

The CREAF encourages applications from highly motivated graduates from all over the world who wish to undertake a doctoral degree in marine sciences. Successful candidates will join research groups headed by top-level scientists and will carry out their research in cutting-edge fields of marine sciences in a stimulating environment.

Postdoctoral Fellowships

Directly funded research fellowships are not available from CREAF at this moment but we welcome the opportunity to work with externally-funded world-class scientists.  If your experience and ambition match CREAF’s scientific aims and you wish to carry out research at one of our sites, the following funding schemes exist that could allow you to do so:


”La Caixa” Foundation Postdoctoral Junior Leader Fellowships

Up to 30 postdoctoral research fellowships (30 incoming, 15 retaining) are offered at accredited centres with the Severo Ochoa Excellence Award, such as CREAF.
