RESEARCH TECHNICIAN FOR THE PHUSICOS PROJECT

CREAF is seeking for a high specialized technician, to work for the PHUSICOS project ("'According to nature' - Solutions to reduce risk in mountain landscapes"), Grant Agreement (GA) No. 776681, H2020-SC5-08-2017 program, funded by the European Commission. The contract is envisaged to start next September, and will last until the end of the tasks detailed below (six months are expected).

TASKS

  1. Active collaboration in the preparation and development of field campaigns for soil sampling, in the Central Pyrenees (both sides: French –Barèges- and Spanish –Biescas-) and in Italy (Lake Massaciuccoli area, Lucca, Tuscany).
  2. Processing of soil samples and their analysis in terms of texture, structure and fractionation of organic matter.
  3. Analysis of soil samples for the evaluation of microbial diversity (functional and genetic).
  4. Collaboration in the extraction and processing of samples for the study of trophic networks.

REQUIREMENTS

  1. PhD in terrestrial ecology or similar.
  2. Demonstrable post-doctoral experience.
  3. Demonstrable autonomy in the management of soil laboratories.
  4. Deep knowledge of physical, chemical and molecular soil analysis techniques.
  5. Experience in functional diversity trials (MicroResp).
  6. Experience in extraction and purification of DNA and RNA from soils.
  7. Demonstrable experience in PCR, qPCR and RT-PCR and in sample preparation for metagenomic analysis.
  8. Spanish and English spoken and written correctly.
  9. Availability to travel abroad during field campaigns.
  10. A good physical condition, allowing the hired technician a right development of field campaigns in sub-alpine mountain areas.

ASSESSABLE CONDITIONS

  1. Knowledge of French and Italian languages.
  2. It will be especially valued to have a recognized disability certificate.

SELECTION PROCESS AND CRITERIA
The selection process is led by the research project team, and will be overseen by the Management Office and the Human Resources Area of CREAF. This process consists of:

  1. Admission of candidates: applicants must submit a résumé, a cover letter (maximum 500 words) and the questionnaire attached to the offer (filled), by e-mail to laboral@creaf.uab.cat, until 11 August 2019, indicating the reference code of the offer.   2. Pre-selection: determination of compliance with the minimum requirements of the offer.
  3. Selection: assessment of the preselected candidates by scoring based on objective criteria.
  4. Final decision: in case of finding the suitable person, the election will be formally communicated to him/her, and the identification of the chosen person will be published on CREAF job openings section.
