CREAF

CREAF is seeking to appoint a data scientist to work in the Ecosystem Modelling Facility (EMF), to work full-time in the context of a SEVERO OCHOA award (2018 SEVERO OCHOA Excellence Centers, ref. CEX2018-000828-S, from the Agencia Estatal de Investigación). The EMF aims at coordinating modelling work and data infrastructures at CREAF, providing support to CREAF’s research groups on model development and application, as well as developing and leading large-scale modelling projects on ecosystem dynamics in response to global change drivers. This contract is scheduled to start in early January 2021, and will have a duration of 3 years. The salary offered is 25.802,00 € gross per year.

TASKS AND PROGRAMME OF WORK
- Be responsible for the development and management of the EMF data infrastructure, in coordination with other activities within the SEVERO OCHOA program and with other research groups at CREAF.
- Be responsible for developing internal standards for data and metadata quality and modelling workflows.
- Provide assistance in all EMF activities, as needed. These activities also include: setting up a repository of models and meta-models developed at CREAF; contribute towards a harmonized data infrastructure; develop large-scale modelling projects on ecosystem dynamics in response to global change drivers; organize specialized courses on modelling tools; and work for the mid-term viability of the facility.
- Provide guidance to staff and students, and collaborate with other researchers as required.

REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in computer science/geography/biology/environmental science or equivalent.
- Demonstrable expertise in managing and using large databases.
- Demonstrable expertise in developing and managing complex data infrastructures.
- Demonstrable expertise in advanced data analysis.
- Demonstrable expertise in computer science.
- Demonstrable expertise in data visualization and communication.

ADDITIONAL (ASSESSABLE) QUALIFICATIONS
- A completed PhD on a topic related to data science and/or ecology/environmental biology.
- Demonstrable expertise in programming and in using advanced modelling techniques, particularly in an ecological context.
- Experience in working alongside and/or coordinating large research groups, preferably in an international environment.
- International working experience.
- Knowledge of English.

SELECTION PROCES AND CRITERIA
The selection process is led by the specific scientific commission, and will be overseen by the Management Office and the Human Resources Area of CREAF. This process consists of:
1.
